Sitting at the base of the Wasatch Mountains, this 117,000 SqFt office building is the second building of the Cornerstone at Cottonwoods. The Class A office space on the 8.86-acre parcel was oriented to maximize views of the mountains to the East providing building tenants with beautiful vistas. The Cornerstone I and II buildings share a three-story lobby that includes a two-story atrium entrance and office space on the third level.
Sure Steel was brought in as a partner by Big-D Construction to erect the nearly 1,000 tons of steel on the four-story structure. To maximize views and enhance seismic performance, the proprietary SidePlate moment frame system was used in the structural design. This system eliminates the need for chevron or angle bracing while decreasing the overall building weight.
This was the first project erected in a high-seismic zone to utilize the new SidePlate bolted connection. The new system allowed for a more quick and safe installation, creating considerable time savings to the owner and to the overall project duration. In the 12,600 man hours used to complete the project, there were no lost-time incidents.
