As a design/build project for the United States Air Force, the C-130 Hangar at Hill Air Force Base in Layton, Utah, was a hybrid system made up of both structural steel and pre-engineered metal building components. The 60,000 SqFt hangar utilized a structural steel frame, with open web joists, light gauge zee girts, single skin wall panels and a Butler MR24 roof system. Sure Steel worked side by side with URS Corporation and Needham and Associates to meet the strict design requirements. No NCR’s were issued by the Corps of Engineers and the project was completed ahead of schedule. The steel was fabricated and erected in accordance with MBMA and AISC standards and the project was awarded “Metal Building of the Year” by the Metal Building Contractors and Erectors Association for 2004. Sure Steel worked over 14,500 man hours without any safety incidents.
