When Dillard’s in Murray, Utah, decided to relocate to the other side of the Fashion Place Mall, some major structural upgrades were required on the existing walls to receive the new building. As part of a two-stage process, Sure Steel was selected by CDI Contractors to perform the erection of the steel. In a separate contract, Sure Steel was contracted to supply and erect the first phase which required reinforcing the original masonry wall of the mall with stiff back columns over 56’ tall. This stabilized the wall and allowed for the new expansion of the store. In the second phase, Sure Steel erected almost 1,300 tons of steel on the 214,760 SqFt 2 story structure in 9 weeks. Sure Steel utilized a “kitting” strategy to install the roof. Large panels of joist and decking were pre-assembled on the ground in “kits” and hoisted into position, increasing productivity, reducing crane time and decreasing exposure to falling items.
