Overlooking the Ketchikan Harbor, the PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center was a welcome addition to the community. Due to the challenges that come with building a hospital on a remote island, Layton Construction had to turn to a steel contractor they could trust. Sure Steel was hired to erect the 89,000 sq ft 4-story expansion with an erect only contract. The project location created many challenges that we had to overcome in order to complete the project within the tight timeline. All materials were shipped via barge. Since the existing hospital had very little lay down, our team had to coordinate and sort the materials at the local receiving yard. Sure Steel worked closely with the Layton team to overcome the project challenges and successfully installed the 850 tons of steel without any safety incidents.
